Thelwen is made and maintained by one person. There is no company, no team and no legal entity behind it. Where a policy like this would normally name a data controller, that person is it, and because the app collects nothing there is nothing for them to control.
There is no support desk, and there is no contact email. Anything about this policy, including anything in it that looks wrong, is raised as an issue at github.com/IdanYakubov/thelwen/issues. That tracker is public: anyone can read it and anyone can open one. It is the only channel there is, and it is deliberately one where the question and the answer stay readable by everyone rather than disappearing into a mailbox.
Thelwen has no accounts, no sign-up, and no server that stores your data. There is nothing to log in to, so there is nothing for us to hold about you.
The app makes no network calls at all. It carries its own files and behaves the same in airplane mode as out of it. On the web, loading the site fetches those files from a web server as any page does, and after that nothing is sent back. There are no analytics, not even an anonymous page count, no tracking cookies, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party SDKs.
Everything you write — tasks, journal entries, focus sessions, mentor conversations — is saved in storage belonging to this one copy of the app: the app’s own storage on Android, the browser’s local storage on the web. It is never transmitted anywhere, which also means it does not follow you to another device.
Settings has an export button. That file is the only copy that exists apart from the device, and making one is your responsibility, not ours.
There is one route off the device that other apps have and this one does not, and it is worth saying plainly: Android’s own system backup is switched off for Thelwen in the app’s manifest, and so is the device-to-device transfer that sets up a new phone from an old one. Even with device backup turned on for the rest of your phone, Android does not copy this app’s data into your Google account. Nothing about that depends on trusting us with it.
The cost is real and you should know it before you start: a new phone starts empty. The export file is the only thing that carries anything across, and nothing here will remind you to make one.
The mentor runs entirely on your device. It is a fixed set of questions and quotations shipped inside the app, not a language model. What you write to it is not sent to an AI provider or to any other server, and it is not used to train anything.
It is a tool for reflection. It is not medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. If you are in crisis, contact a crisis line or emergency number where you are.
The Android app requests no runtime permissions. It never asks for the camera, the microphone, contacts, location, notifications, or files outside its own sandbox, because it has no use for any of them.
The manifest declares no permissions at all. The one that would let the app reach the network was removed from it deliberately, so “nothing leaves your device” is not a promise in this document — it is a constraint Android enforces, and you can check it on the store listing before you install.
Thelwen is not directed at children under 13 and is not designed for them. It collects nothing from anyone of any age, so there is no child’s data to hold, disclose, or hand back.
No ads. No analytics. No tracking cookies. No AI provider. No crash or error reporting. No email list. No payment processor, because the app is free and there is nothing to buy or subscribe to. There are no subprocessors, because there is no data to process.
You delete it yourself. On Android, uninstall the app or clear its storage from Android’s app settings. On the web, clear the site’s data in your browser. Either way, every task, entry, and conversation is gone for good.
We cannot delete it for you and we cannot recover it. There is no server copy and no backup of ours to restore, because we never had one. If you want to keep anything, export it first.
If Thelwen ever starts sending your data anywhere, this page will say so before it happens. There is no account to notify and no mailing list to announce it on, so the date at the top of this page is the announcement: when it moves, something here changed.
